St'Johns' Island

St. John's Island (previously known as Pulau Sekijang Bendara) is located approximately 6.5km south of Singapore. The course site is located on the north-western part of the island. Accommodation facilities are dormitories with shared common bathrooms and toilets. As the location is very close to the equator, the weather is warm and humid with occassional showers. Laundry facility is limited (only hand-washing is available), please bring enough clothings for the course.

How to get to St. John's Island?

1. By Chartered Ferry

Vipassana Singapore will charter a ferry to transport students to and from St. John's Island. On the day the course begins, the chartered ferry will depart at about 2.30 pm from Marina South Pier located at 31 Marina Coastal Drive. Upon arrival at St. John's Island, there will be volunteers to guide you to the campsite.

On the day the course concludes, the chartered ferry will arrive at Marina South Pier no later than 11.00am.

The cost for the chartered ferry fare is $15.00 (exclusive $0.50 St.John's entrance fee payable to official on duty at the jetty) per person per round-trip. We strongly recommend students to choose this option as it is the most convenient and cost effective. Payment can be made after arriving at St. John's Island during the checking-in for the course.

2. By Public Ferry Service

There are public ferry service that goes to St. John's Island from Marina South Pier. The indicative cost is about $18 (inclusive St.John's entrance fee) per person per round-trip. The services are infrequent on weekdays (twice a day) and more on weekends. As the schedules and costs are subject to change, please check with the relevant offices for the exact schedules and costs. If you wish to take the public ferry, please arrive at St. John's Island before 5pm on the day the course begins. Please note that there may not be volunteers to guide you to the actual course site from the St. John's Island jetty.

3. By Chartered Boat

There are several chartered boat operators located at the Marina South Pier. The indicative cost of a chartered boat to St. John's Island from Marina South Pier is around $80 - $100 per trip. If you wish to hire a charter boat, you will have to make your own arrangement, and please arrive at St. John's Island before 5pm on the day the course begins. Please note that there may not be volunteers to guide you to the actual course site from the St. John's Island jetty.

How to get to Marina South Pier?

You can either go by taxi or you can take MRT to NS27 Marina Bay station and then take bus number 402. The bus interval frequency is about 30 minutes.
